Jace was born of Ennoia, the first born of the Greymane. The Wolf Queen. How is this possible?
It is a long and very intricate story.
It all began with Ennoia, the forest stalker. She who darkness quivers in fear of. She known as the Wolf Queen.
She conquered every village from the Sarisan Coast to the very shores of Argania and beyond. Her might was unquestioned, and her thirst for war never quenched. She was the first Greymane, and the first to hold her court with wolves present. There were of course tales of her being a werewolf, and that she mated with wolves to produce her blood thirsty offspring though the rumors were unfounded and were only whispered outside of her court.
Tales continued of how powerful she was, though every great legend has an end. She set sail from the Kaurav mountains and sailed to lands unknown. Leaving her sons to rule the kingdom she created. Her sons naturally blood thirsty as herself began to fight amongst themselves as to which was mightier, and which should ascend to be The Wolf King, unfortunately, the enemies of the Wolf Queen had been waiting for such an opportunity. The Greymane line was nearly destroyed in the war that came soon after. A battle of five armies that ripped asunder the lands in devastation and upheaval as the Greymane's were defeated due to the in fighting weakening their own armies.
Still as the last Greymane, Harkon the Bastard, fought against the invading armies, he to was defeated and captured after the brutal battle of Frejorld. Though Harkon, he was smart. He escaped his capture as he was being brought back to the main city for execution. Into the wilds he ran, since then the wild's became filled with bandits and warriors that high jacked shipments in the north with supernatural proficiency. Known as the Berserkers, all merchants who travel the wilds know well of the stories. Though now just stories indeed.
After Ennoia left her sons to take over her throne long ago, she went in search for a legend. The shard of the World Tree. A mythical shard that was said to grant eternal life to the one who took the shard. She never told her men what she was doing, they were so loyal to her, even to their deaths as she waded into the icey expanses past all the maps and all the rivers before. Her venture was long, and many a legendary creature was slain by her. Basking in their blood as she finally came to what she sought.
As the shard was within her grasp, a Valkyrie came to her and warned that if she did this she would cause the downfall of her own clan. She cursed the Valkyrie and spit upon the ground before her. The Valkyrie disappeared and through her act doomed the Greymane's. Through the ages she appeared and seduced greymane's worthy of her graces. When she gave birth to a new greymane she left again. Thus the legends of the greymane's were born through her. Cursed by the Valkyrie. She saw this all downfall and through time sought out some way to rectify this curse. There she met with a daughter she bore, Raven. Raven knew the truth of her birth and confronted her mother as she told her how to break the vicious curse that lead the Greymane's to such doom.
She who only wanted the warriors true, would have to go against her vicious nature, to find the warrior worth nothing. To find the one that could give her a suitable son as strong as her. In the end, she found Ragnus Greymane, nothing special, just a soldier. He was a coward, in the fight that earned him the honor of a coward, he ran. Forsaking his birth right and thus shaming the Greymane line. Fortunate for him, no one came back from the battle to report his cowardice.
In that moment Ennoia had found her curse breaker. She seduced him like the others and gave birth to a daughter of Jace. Where upon she was given to Ragnus and told to raise her a warrior true. If he did not, she would return and kill both of them. She presented him with her brand, and told him to tell nothing to Jace. Little did he know that she would return, to finally end his life and ensure that Jace never knew her as her mother. Since then Jace has slowly been gaining status like no other. At 17 she was a general of Argania. At 19 she had already defeated Giants, Demons, and Dragons alike.
Though still unsatisfied with her offspring's progression, she began to find ways to test her. Each attack becoming greater and causing her to fight impossible forces and beings. She was growing impatient to see if indeed the curse was broken. On her 20th birthday, Jace was visited unknowingly by her mother. Disguised as a mere maiden, she gave her a gift, it was said to be her father's sword. Though she explained that she had her father's sword, Ennoia told her differently. That the sword he actually used was lost during the fight in the crags. The woman had found it when she was traveling and presented it to Jace. Ennoia gave Jace the true Greymane Sword that was held by Kings and even herself.
Within the hilt she had sewn a small splinter of the wood dipped in her own blood. The splinter did it's job as it pierced Jace's hand when she held the sword in battle for the first time. The shard's power was strange, it never radiated with magic, but would give Jace such strength and power as to fight any enemy that she so desired. Unfortunately with the blood, it ran cold within her veins and soon corrupted her mind with whispers of dark intent. Sleepless nights, and daunting days began as the royals fought with one another, and Jace continued to struggle to rebuild the military and build up the forces needed to sustain Argania. Meanwhile her mother watched, and waited.
